RENNER – The Brookings Bullets split a doubleheader with Renner on Wednesday afternoon. Both games were low scoring as the teams combined to score 10 runs in the two games.

Game 1

 Brookings 4, Renner 2 (8 inn.)

The Bullets scored two runs in the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie and come away with the victory in game one.

Neither team scored in the first two innings. Brookings was sent down one-two-three in the top of the third and Renner was able to get on the board in the bottom of the inning. Renner held the Bullets scoreless in the top of the fourth and added another run in the bottom of the inning to make it 2-0 after four innings.

Brookings struck back in the top of the fifth and tied the game. With one out, Carter Wright was hit by a pitch and Trenton Pederson hit a single. Rocklyn Dauphinais was then hit by pitch to load the bases up. With two outs, Isaac Schulte hit a two-run single to make it 2-2. The Bullets were unable to score any more runs, but held Renner scoreless in the bottom of the inning.

Neither team scored in the sixth or seventh inning, so the game went to extras. The Bullets took their first lead in the top of the eighth inning. Zach Struck singled and Aidan Stewart walked with one out to put runners on first and third. They both advanced on a passed ball and later scored on a Nathan Lease single to make it 4-2.

Renner had two runners on with two outs, but the batter flied out to first base and ended the game. Schulte went 1-for-2 with two RBI’s and Lease went 1-for-4 with two RBI’s. Matt Nordmeyer picked up the win for the Bullets after pitching six and a third. He gave up two unearned runs on six hits. He struck out five batters and three walks.

Struck singled to start the game and Stewart reached base on an error. They both advanced on a Lease ground out. Struck then scored on a Magnus Nelson ground out to give the Bullets a 1-0 lead. Brookings held Renner scoreless in the bottom of the inning.
