Bullets split doubleheader with Renner Dukes

BROOKINGS – The Bullets split a doubleheader with Renner on Monday night at Bob Shelden Field, dropping the opener 4-3 and then taking the nightcap 11-10 in six innings.

Brookings (12-14) competes in the Buffalo Wild Wings Showdown this weekend. The Bullets face West Central at 11:30 a.m. and Renner at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Bullets’ rally in the seventh came up just short.

Josh Devine and Lincoln Hardin singled to open the final inning. Joey McMacken followed with an RBI double and Braden Clifford walked to load the bases. However, a double play and a strikeout ended the game.

Devine was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs. Hardin was 2-for-4. Payton Theodosopoulos, Sam Hardin and Jett Leddy added hits.

Clifford pitched five innings, allowing four runs – two earned – on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Devine tossed two scoreless in relief, surrendering one hit with a strikeout and a walk.

Game 2

• Brookings 11, Renner 10 (6 inn.)

The Bullets scored four runs in the third, two in the fourth and five in the fifth to grab the lead.

Lincoln Hardin went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Devine, Sam Hardin and Ethan Molengraaf each added two hits and an RBI.

McMacken singled and drove in a pair of runs. Theodosopoulos had the team’s other hit.

Molengraaf pitched five innings to pick up the win, surrendering nine runs – six earned – on 10 hits with six strikeouts and a walk. Lincoln Hardin tossed the sixth to tally the save.
