Bullets split doubleheader with Sioux Falls East

The Brookings Bullets were unable to sweep Sioux Falls East in a doubleheader at Bob Shelden Field Monday. They played well in the field in Game 1 winning 8-3, but fell in a close one 8-7 in Game 2.

Game 1 

• Brookings 8, Sioux Falls East 3

The Bullets jumped out to an early lead and didn’t look back using stellar pitching and defense.

Brookings scored the first three runs of the game in the bottom of the second inning. The first run was scored off of an RBI double from Joey McMacken. Sam Hardin and Mcmacken would then score after an error by the right fielder. 

Sioux Falls East would score one in the third, but the Bullets would respond with two runs apiece in the third and fourth innings to make it 7-1. 

McMacken picked up two more RBIs with a single, J Devine had an RBI triple and Lincoln Hardin picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly.

Sioux Falls East scored a run in both the fifth and sixth inning, but the Bullets picked up an insurance run on an RBI single from Lincoln Hardin. Ethan Molengraff then forced Sioux Falls East to go down 1-2-3 and the Bullets picked up the victory.

Molengraff pitched a complete game giving up three runs, two earned, on seven hits with six strike outs and six walks.

McMacken finished the game 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Lincoln Hardin went 1-for-2 with an RBI and Devine went 2-for-3 with an RBI

Game 2

 Sioux Falls East 8, Brookings 7 (8 inn.)

The Bullets had eight hits, but were unable to hold a lead in the final three innings.

Brookings jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning highlighted by an RBI single from Brayden Clifford and a two RBI single from McMacken.

Sioux Falls East scored one run apiece in the second and third inning. Brookings responded with a run of their own in the third, but Sioux Falls tied the game 5-5 after a three-run fourth inning.

The Bullets would then take a 7-5 lead after an RBI single from Kyle Bauer and a fielders choice from Molengraff.

Sioux Falls East would come back once again and tie the game 7-7 in the sixth inning. Brookings would then be held scoreless in the sixth and both teams were held scoreless in the seventh.

Sioux Falls East scored in the eighth and took the win. 

McMacken started the game for the Bullets and pitched 5 2/3 innings gibing up seven runs on six hits with two strike outs and six walks. On the offensive side he went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

Clifford went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Bauer and Sam Hardin each went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
