Burdick, King earn all-region honors

PEORIA, Ill. – South Dakota State seniors Kyle Burdick and Rachel King both earned all-region honors for the second consecutive season as the Jackrabbit men finished 10th in the team standings and the women were 13th at the NCAA Cross Country Midwest Regional on Friday morning at Newman Golf Course.

Iowa State swept the team and individual titles.

Men

The Jackrabbits totaled 288 points in 10th place.

Iowa State took the crown with 38 points. Bradley (102), Tulsa (107), Oklahoma State (124) and Minnesota (173) were second through fifth, respectively.

Cyclone junior Edwin Kurgat was medalist in the 10K race with a time of 30 minutes, 41.6 seconds, edging Oklahoma State’s Isai Rodriguez (30:42.5). Iowa’s Nathan Mylenek (30:55.2) placed third.

Burdick paced the Jackrabbits with a 31:18.3 clocking, putting him in 15th.

Chase Cayo (32:10.5) was 53rd, Joseph Minor-Williams (32:11.6) 57th, Lukas Nelson (32:22.9) 65th and Tom Breuckman (32:56.5) 98th to complete the team tally.

Also for SDSU, Gabe Peters (33:24.3) took 130th and Micah Mather (33:52.2) 146th.

Women

The Jackrabbits finished with 369 points while taking 13th.

Iowa State won with 78 points. Oklahoma State (140), Minnesota (183), Illinois (203) and Northwestern (205) ended up second through fifth, respectively.

Cyclone sophomore Cailie Logue placed first in the 6K with a 20:13.5 clocking.

Kansas’ Sharon Lokedi (20:23) finished second and Wichita State’s Winny Koskei (20:23) took third.

King crossed in 21:01.9 to take 19th for SDSU.

Emily Donnay (21:40.2) was 59th, Mackenzie Schell (21:53.5) 81st, Anna Donnay (22:00.2) 89th and Ellie Friesen (22:22.8) 121st to round out the team score.

Also for the Jackrabbits, Jamie Schweiss (22:25) finished 126th and Emily Berzonsky (22:44) 155th.
