Calvin Smith was born on Aug. 22, 1954, to Norman and Katie (Bruns) Smith at Hendricks Minn. Much of Calvin’s youth was spent growing up on the farm near White. Calvin graduated from Deubrook schools in May of 1972. Other than a few years spent in Omaha, Nebraska, Calvin called Brookings County home for a majority of his life.
Calvin greatly enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and holding turtle feeds. He treasured time spent with his family and grandchildren. During his lifetime, Calvin was able to see both coasts of the United States. He once dreamed of putting his hands in the Pacific Ocean – a dream that he realized only a few years ago.
Throughout his life, Calvin held many jobs, most recently including several years spent at 3M and Falcon Plastics, until career forced retirement.
Calvin is survived by his children: Nadine (Joe) Campbell, of Volga, Christina (Justin) Thomas, of Oklahoma, Cory Smith, of Arlington, Heather (Bill) Landmark of Toronto and Randy (Christine) Weischedal of Lennox; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers: Virgil Smith of Howey Hill, Florida, Steven (Judy) Smith of White, Arven (Carol) Smith, of Elkton and Vernon (Nancy) Smith, of Gettysburg; sisters: Norma Krogman of Elkton, Shirley Leisinger of Lebanon, Oregon, Arlene (Richard) Robbins, of Wheatland, Wyoming, and Nancy Johnson, of Hawley, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Katie Smith; brothers-in-law: Don Krogman, Alvin Leisinger, and Kermith Johnson; sister-in-law Betty Maynard Smith, and a nephew, Brad Smith.
