BROOKING – Canadian visual artist and cartoonist Jessica Campbell has been selected as the Stuart Artist-in-Residence for South Dakota State University’s School of Design. She will have a public lecture at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at the South Dakota Art Mus-eum’s auditorium.
She will be on campus today through Oct. 4. There will be an open studio event from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 3, at Grove Hall’s Ritz Gallery.
Campbell was chosen from nearly 41 proposals.
Previous selections are Paige Mostowy (2015), Izel Vargas (2016), Mayumi Amada (2017) and Neal Rock (2018).
Campbell has done work in comics, fibers, painting and drawing. She has an upcoming solo exhibition at Field Projects in New York and has had solo exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and at the Galerie Laroche/Joncas in Montreal in addition to other institutions. She has been included in group exhibitions throughout Canada and the U.S.
She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Montreal’s Concordia University and a Master of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
The Artist-in-Residence studio space is located in Grove Hall’s Ritz Gallery, which is open during normal business hours Monday through Friday during Campbell’s time at State.
