Cardinals down Elkton-Lake Benton

ARLINGTON – The Cardinals outscored Elkton-Lake Benton 18-8 in the third quarter to power to a 66-44 Dakota Valley Conference boys’ basketball win on Friday night.

Arlington led 16-11 after a quarter and 29-21 at halftime before the third-quarter surge.

Devon Heuer netted a game-high 20 points while Trevor Larson and Trey Ramstad scored 14 points apiece in the Cardinals’ season-opening win.

Casey Stegeman chipped in with nine points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks as Heuer dished out four assists and came up with four steals.

Marcus Harming dropped 15 points to lead the Elks, who dropped to 2-1 overall and 2-1 in the DVC. Devin Sopko added 10 points while Matthew Nibbe chipped in with eight points and 10 boards.

Arlington travels to Castlewood on Monday as the Elks take on Colman-Egan at 3:30 p.m. in the Entringer Classic in Brookings on Dec. 29.
