Cardinals, Hawks advance to DVC championship

Arlington and Colman-Egan advanced to the Dakota Valley Conference Tournament title game after the Cardinals downed Oldham-Ramona/Rutland, 56-38, and the Hawks beat Dell Rapids St. Mary, 70-47.

In consolation action, Deubrook Area bested Estelline, 60-46, while Lake Preston got past Elkton-Lake Benton, 59-51.

The boys’ tournament concludes Saturday at Elkton when the Redmen and Elks square off at 1 p.m. for seventh; the Dolphins and Divers match up at 2:30 for fifth; the Raiders and Cardinal face off at 4 p.m.; and the Hawks and Cardinals go for the title at 6:30 p.m.

Championship Semifinals

• Arlington 56, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 38

The Cardinals jumped out to lead 13-7 after 8 minutes; 26-13 at halftime; and 48-21 through three quarters to cruise to the championship semifinal win.

Will Parry scored 16 points; dished out five assists and came up with three steals to lead Arlington, 7-3. Devon Heuer added 13 points, four dimes and three takeaways while Scott Sampson finished with nine points, six rebounds and four steals. Casey Stegeman chipped in with nine points.

Hunter Breske’s 15 points led the Raiders, who dropped to 5-5. Jamus Brown had 11 points and five steals while Taylor Hojer pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to go along with four points.

• Colman-Egan 70, Dell Rapids St. Mary 47

The Hawks built a 10-point lead after a quarter – 18-8 – and continued to build on it as they pushed their advantage to 38-22 at halftime and 51-35 at the end of three quarters.

Bodee Groos and Dalton Voelker posted double-doubles as Groos dropped 22 points and pulled down 11 rebounds and Voelker notched 10 markers and 13 boards. Keith Crisp also went off for 22 points as Colman-Egan improved to 6-4.

Luke Brown’s 16 points led the Cardinals, who fell to 6-4. Connor Libis added 14 points.

Consolation Semifinals

• Deubrook Area 60, Estelline 46

The Dolphins had a big fourth quarter to pull away to the double-digit win.

Leading 38-35 after three quarters, Deubrook Area went on a 22-11 run in the final frame to even its record at 5-5.

Cody Bauman led the Dolphins with 16 points and eight rebounds. Clayton Koppatschek added 11 points and Nick Olson chipped in with nine as Brock Sheffield pulled down a game-high nine boards.

Marcis Hausman’s 13 points and five rebounds led the Redmen, who dropped to 0-11. Davon Dahl had 11 points while Thomas West contributed nine markers and a team-high seven boards.

• Lake Preston 59, Elkton-Lake Benton 51

The Elks led 25-19 at halftime before the Divers rallied in the second half to pull out the win.

Lake Preston was up 16-13 after a quarter and put up 18 points in the third quarter to go back up, 37-33, on the way to victory.

Jasper Denison scored 16 points; Paydon Casper finished with 10 markers and eight rebounds; and Byron Bumann had nine points and nine assists as the Divers improved to 3-8. Carter Malone added nine points and Noah Thomas grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

Taryn Krog’s 13 points and eight rebounds led Elkton-Lake Benton, 2-8. Grant DeRuyter chipped in with 12 points as Devin Sopko came up with a pair of takeaways for the Elks.
