Carol Mae Carter 83, of Brookings, SD, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2021, at the United Living Community, Brookings, SD.  Funeral Services have been set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Rude’s Funeral Home.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service.  
Rude’s Funeral Home will live-stream the funeral service on Rude’s Funeral Home Facebook page for those unable to attend.
Masks will be required by those attending the visitation and funeral.
Carol Mae Pedersen was born on Sept. 25, 1937, in Brookings, South Dakota the daughter of Jens and Alice (Bullis) Pedersen.
Carol received her education in Arlington, SD and was a graduate of the Arlington High School in 1956.  She was united in marriage to Vern Carter on June 15, 1956.  Carol was employed at various places throughout her life including Kjenslee’s Café, Ben Franklin and the Rainbow Café.  After Vern entered the United States Military, they lived in El Paso, TX and Germany.  
After returning to South Dakota, Carol was employed at J.C. Penney’s, Townhouse, Rainbow Café, Coachlight, Red Owl Grocery Store and Brookings Monument.  From 1986 until 1995, she was employed at SDSU in the Chemistry Lab as a secretary.  Vern died on July 1, 2000, in Brookings, SD.
She enjoyed playing cards on the computer or with friends, penny gambling, dancing, camping, fishing and especially spending time with her grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her son, Terry G. Carter (Echo South) of Henning, MN; her daughter, Tanya Carter (Bruce Bortnem) Aurora, SD and her grandchildren, Ashley, Jordan, Hayley, Lindsey and Katie.
