Carole Jean Cook, 75, of Egan, died Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls. 

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. today at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau, with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Carole was born July 2, 1942 in Hayti to Albert and Freda (Schutte) Appel. She attended school in Hayti and graduated in 1960. 

Carole was married 1962 and had three children, Curtis, Cal and Amy. She worked at the Estelline Hospital, M & C fireworks stand, as a waitress at Prairie Junction, the Colman Bar and the Variety Store in Egan. Carole bought the Egan Bar in 1988 and renamed it Lucky’s Bar. After four years she sold the bar and worked at the Egan General Store and Egan Fertilizer. In the early 1990’s she became a cook for the Egan School District and then Colman-Egan. She retired in 2015 after working at the school for over 20 years. Carole enjoyed quilting, cross-stitching and crossword puzzles. She was willing to help anyone out and put others before herself.

Carole is survived by three children, Curtis (Jan) Cook, Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, Cal (Bev) Cook of Brookings and Amy (Tom) Steinhauer of Egan; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Micky, Dar, Doll; sister-in-law, Dorothy Appel and many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives. 

Carole was preceded in death by her sister Jennie, brother Harold and special friends, Denny Lewis, Dewayne Peterson and Mike Cameron.
