Carolyn Grace (Kuester) Mar, 98, of Hot Springs, died Dec. 21, 2017, at her residence in Hot Springs.

Memorial services are at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 13, at Rude’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Crossman officiating.

 Carolyn was born in Unity, Wisconsin, the daughter of Charles Henry Kuester and Grace Bertha Mardon Daehn. She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1937. Carolyn married Henry Harold Mar on April 12, 1939, in Hutchinson, Minnesota. Their daughter, Gloria Grace Michele, was born on Aug. 30, 1940, in Superior, Wisconisin

 Carolyn and her family lived in Minnesota and Wisconsin and moved to Brookings in 1945. While living in Brookings she worked at the Brookings Steam Laundry and the Quick Lunch Café. When her husband opened their saw sharpening and gun smithing business she helped him in the shop as he had muscular dystrophy. She moved to Hot Springs in 1995 to be closer to her daughter on the ranch.

Carolyn was a member of St. Thomas Moore and TOP’s No. 143. Her hobbies were African violets and making afghans for her many great and great-great grandchildren. Her whole life revolved around her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Gloria Michele Stanton of Hot Springs; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; six brothers; two sisters and a grandson, John.
