Massachusetts health officials have confirmed a second case of measles in Lowell and are warning area residents the person went to several public locations, possibly exposing others to the disease.
The Department of Public Health said Saturday that the second case was diagnosed Nov. 15, a week after the first patient was diagnosed. Officials say there are no known links between the two cases. Health officials are trying to identify people who may be at risk for measles.
They say the likelihood of getting measles can be reduced with vaccinations within three to five days of exposure.
Authorities say the second Lowell person with measles went to the T.J. Maxx in Chelmsford on Nov. 11, the Lowell Community Center on Nov. 15 and the Walmart in Tewksbury on Nov. 15.
