BROOKINGS – A cat is being blamed for a motorcyclist crashing Saturday afternoon, according to the Brookings Police.

The accident was reported about 1 p.m. Saturday and occurred in the 2300 block of Dean Court, Lt. Derrick Powers said.

It was reported by someone who had witnessed the accident; “it wasn’t the person who was involved,” he said.

Officers determined the driver was Keevan Rosenland, 20, of Brookings, and that he lived in the area and had gone home.

“Someone had brought the motorcycle back to the residence,” Powers said.

Rosenland was driving a 2002 Yamaha motorcycle that sustained more than $1,000 in damage, Powers said.

“(He) was driving northbound on Dean Court when a cat ran out in front of the motorcycle. The driver swerved and lost control of the motorcycle and laid the bike down on its side,” Powers said.

Rosenland said he was going approximately 45 mph at the time of the accident, Powers added.

Rosenland was cited for failure to report an accident, driver’s license violation and no insurance.

The ambulance was called, but no one was transported, Powers said.
