Cathryn King, age 92, of Toronto, SD, passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, May 3, 2021, in Sioux Falls, SD.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, at Leganger Lutheran Church in Toronto, SD. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Toronto City Cemetery. Houseman Funeral Home of Clear Lake is entrusted with the arrangements.
Cathryn J. King was born Aug. 1, 1928, to Raymond and Alice (Nelson) Moore on a farm near Toronto, SD. She passed peacefully on Monday, May 3, 2021 at her son’s home in Sioux Falls with her daughters by her side.
She attended the Roosevelt Country School and graduated from Toronto High School in 1946 and from Nettleton Business College in 1948. Cathryn worked at United Tractor and Equipment Company in Sioux Falls before the love of her life, Robert King, asked her to marry him.
They were united in marriage on March 6, 1949, at Leganger Lutheran Church in Toronto. Cathryn and Bob spent 60 years together farming on the farm homesteaded in 1878 near Toronto. To this union four children were born; Cynthia, Dianna, Jerome, and David.
Cathryn was a devoted wife and mother, a blessing and an inspiration to her family, friends, and community for over 92 years.
Bob and Katie were inseparable in everything they did. She was an equal and vital partner in the business and operation of farming, raising cattle and hogs and children. Working the land and livestock, she could operate every piece of farm equipment. Together they took great pride in keeping the buildings and farmyard pristine. In their later years, they enjoyed traveling and visited many states of the union including Hawaii and Alaska.
Cathryn was a life-long member of the Leganger Lutheran Church, a 58-year member of the Toronto American Legion Auxiliary, and a 65-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, White, SD chapter.
She is lovingly remembered by her three children: Cynthia (Bob Pauli) Adams, Brandon, SD; Dianna (Greg) Overby, Clark, SD; and David (Connie Donohue), Sioux Falls, SD; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; son, Jerry; parents; brother, Ronnie and sister-in-law, Joy.
Her life was a blessing and a treasure to everyone she touched. She is loved beyond words and will always be in our hearts.
