‘Cats beat Lennox, Vermillion

BROOKINGS – The Bobcats stayed hot on a chilly Sunday afternoon with a 15-0 win over Lennox and a 12-8 come-from-behind victory over Vermillion.

Brookings opens state tournament play at 11 a.m. on Friday in Sioux Falls.

The ‘Cats made short work of Lennox – plating five runs in the first, three in the second and seven in the third – to end the game via the run-rule.

Jessa Rindels earned the win in the circle as she didn’t give up a hit while walking two and striking out two.

Sydney Grendler led the Bobcat offense with three hits and three RBIs as Sydney Schneider and Skylar Hinricher each drove in two runs.

Riley Weisbeck added three hits, including a double, and an RBI while Jenna Eischens plated a run with a double, as well.

Schneider and Landry Wilson tacked on a double apiece as Brookings banged out 16 hits.

The visitors built a 6-0 lead before the Bobcats rallied with two runs in the second, three in the third and seven in the fourth to earn the come-from-behind win over the Tanagers.

Annika Hawks scattered 10 hits and walked three with one strikeout to pick up the win.

Brookings had 15 hits, including four for extra-bases, as Weisbeck tripled while Eischens, Grendler and Hawks chipped in with doubles.

Grendler, Sierra Stevens, Hinricher and Hawks all drove in a pair of runs as Jaelynn Gaspar plated a run with a single.
