TULSA, Okla. – Chase Cayo led South Dakota State’s sweep of the top three spots in the men’s 10,000-meter run at the Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday at ONEOK Sports Complex.
Cayo, a sophomore and the reigning Summit League Cross Country Championship MVP, clocked a time of 30 minutes, 47.58 seconds.
Kyle Burdick placed second in 30:59.26 and Trevor Capra finished third with a 31:11.33 clocking. Lukas Nelson (32:38.3) took seventh.
Colton Bender added a third-place showing in the hammer throw with a mark of 197 feet, 8 inches. Logan Ammons (192-7) ended up sixth.
Ryan Hieber sits in fourth at the halfway point of the decathlon with 3,620 points. He trails a trio of Bison as Matt Neururer (3,857), Ryan Enerson (3,755) and Ben Klimpke (3,709) sit 1-2-3, respectively.
Hieber was sixth in the 100 (11.72), third in the long jump (22-5 3/4), first in the shot put (43-9 3/4), third in the high jump (6-4) and sixth in the 400 (52.42).
North Dakota State tops the team leaderboard with 54 points and the Jackrabbits are second at 40.
Women
Jackrabbit senior Vanessa Lane leads the heptathlon with 3,134 points through four events.
She was fourth in the 100 hurdles (14.75), third in the high jump (5-2 1/4), second in the shot put (39-0 1/4) and first in the 200 (24.93).
NDSU’s Jaelin Beachy is second with 3,017 points, followed by Western Illinois’ Michaela Busch (2,989) in third, NDSU’s Kennedi Sand (2,963) in fourth and South Dakota’s Haley Bruggeman (2,944) in fifth.
The heptathlon wraps up today with the long jump, javelin and 800.
SDSU’s Anna Donnay placed fourth in the 10K in a time of 36:59.52 and teammate Emily Berzonsky was seventh with a 38:37.75 clocking.
Abby Sudbeck finished fifth in the hammer throw with a heave of 180-11. Rachel Astleford took eighth in the javeline at 125-3.
NDSU leads the team standings with 70 points and USD is second at 64. SDSU (12) sits in third.
