Chamber Bucks are back

BROOKINGS – The Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce has launched its newest member and community benefit, Brookings Chamber Bucks.

The Brookings Chamber Bucks program creates a quick and easy way for consumers to buy gift certificates online. The gift certificates may be printed out or pulled up on the consumer’s phone for redemption. Chamber Bucks will be redeemable at any of the Chamber’s participating member businesses.

“The community currency programs have been used in the Chamber industry for years, but the Brookings community hasn’t seen a program for nearly 10 years,” Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Kelsey Doom said. “We are excited to bring back a program that offers another opportunity to shop small and shop local all year-round.”

Consumers can purchase Chamber Bucks starting at noon Tuesday, Nov. 23, by going to the Chamber’s website, www.brookingschamber.org. They are available in increments of $5, $10, $20 and $25.

Those who get online early enough might even get an added bonus to their purchase – the first 1,500 people to purchase $25 or more in Chamber Bucks receive an extra $5 in Chamber Bucks for free.

“The community went crazy over the Gift Card Give Back, where the Chamber was able to partner with members to funnel over $260,000 into struggling small business’ owners hands last year,” Doom said. “We had a lot of individuals comment and ask about a program to purchase gift certificates online all year-round. Our board of directors fully supported the effort to shopping local.”

There are currently over 60 businesses signed up to accept Chamber Bucks in many industries, ranging from restaurants to retail, clinics to chiropractors. Participation to accept Chamber Bucks is free, but Chamber membership is required.
