Chester Area boys win B championship

BROOKINGS – Chester Area claimed the team title in the Class B State Boys’ Golf Tournament, which wrapped up Tuesday at the Club.

The Flyers shot 243 for a 500 total.

Platte-Geddes (246) ended up second at 502.

Deubrook Area (247) finished third with a 506 tally. De Smet (247) and first-round leader Great Plains Lutheran (261) tied for fourth with 524 totals.

The Black Panthers’ Brody Boltjes shot 2-over-par 74 (35-39) and earned medalist honors. He totaled 152 strokes over 36 holes to win by one.

Faulkton’s Bennett Cassens fired 75 (39-36), including a birdie on the 18th. He was runner-up at 153.

First-round leader Sam Hansen (183) of GPL and Deuel’s Tanner Preheim (76) tied for second with 156 totals.

Hansen shot 39 on the front but opened the back with three consecutive bogeys and was ultimately derailed by a triple-bogey 8 at the 14th.

Wall’s Reid Hanson, who shot a tourney-low 72 in the second round, and Wessington Springs’ Blake Larson (80) tied for fifth at 157.

Deubrook was led by Nash Colberg, who carded a second straight 83 and tied for 16th at 166.

Brodey Crooks (80) tied for 18th at 167; Gavin Landmark (84) tied for 30th at 173; and Jackson Selleck (88) tied for 62nd at 186.

Oldham-Ramona/Rutland junior Carter Wermers closed with an 82. He tied for 16th with a 166 tally.

Colman-Egan’s Taylor Kreich (99) tied for 96th at 200.

Estelline/Hendricks’ Davin Carlson (110) tied for 112th at 210.
