Chester, MCM advance to Big East Conference final

VOLGA/FLANDREAU – Chester Area beat Beresford 25-15, 25-22, 25-7 and McCook Central/Montrose dropped Parker 26-24, 25-18, 25-18 in the semifinals of the Big East Conference Volleyball Tournament on Thursday.

In the first round, the Flyers defeated Garretson 25-8, 25-19, 25-12; the Watchdogs downed Sioux Valley 25-23, 25-22, 22-25, 25-16; the Fighting Cougars dropped Flandreau 25-21, 21-25, 25-15, 25-15; and the Pheasants toppled Baltic 25-22, 25-13, 25-17.

The Cossacks bounced back with a 25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 25-17 victory over the Blue Dragons and the Lady Bulldogs edged the Fliers 23-25, 25-16, 26-20, 19-25, 15-12 in the consolation semifinals.

The place matches are Saturday in Beresford.

First round

 Beresford 3, Sioux Valley 1

Jess Niles had 16 kills and four blocks as the Watchdogs won 25-23, 25-22, 22-25, 25-16.

Cali Boden added nine kills and Aubrey Twedt eight.

Jaden Fisher (21) and Boden (17) combined for 38 set assists. Alana Berland came up with 21 digs.

The Cossacks’ Miakken Vincent totaled 17 kills.

Rylan Willis finished with 10 kills, seven service aces, 19 set assists and 14 digs.

Alicia VanderWal contributed five kills and a block. Reagan Johnson totaled two blocks.

Bekah Bahn notched 40 digs and Rylee Honomichl had 14.

Consolation semifinals

 Sioux Valley 3, Garretson 1

The Cossacks prevailed by the set scores of 25-23, 25-18, 23-25 and 25-17.

Willis racked up 14 kills, three aces, 17 set assists and 10 digs.

Vincent totaled 15 kills, three blocks and 10 digs.

Honomichl netted a trio of aces. VanderWal and Taylor Moir both notched a pair of blocks.

Bahn came up with 25 digs and Honomichl contributed 12.

The Blue Dragons’ Kennedy Buckneberg had 12 kills, and Lauren Heesch and Lily Ranschau both finished with 10. Buckneberg also tallied 20 digs and Jaelyn Benson added 19. Peyton Hove dished out 33 set assists. Heesch had three blocks.
