South Dakota State quarterback Taryn Christion was named Monday as STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Jackrabbits’ road victory Oct. 28 over Western Illinois.

A junior from Sioux Falls, Christion accounted for six touchdowns and 423 yards of total offense in SDSU’s 52-24 win. He completed 26-of-41 passes for 386 yards and rushed eight times for 37 yards and another score. His five touchdown passes, which covered 30, 13, 1, 46 and 6 yards, tied a career high, while his passing total is the seventh-highest in program history and his total offense mark ranks eighth in the Jackrabbit annals.

In addition, Christion topped the 7,000-yard mark for career passing yards and 8,000 yards for total offense in the game, and also moved into second place on the SDSU career charts for career passing touchdowns with 58.

Christion was named Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Sunday.

Christian Rozeboom, a sophomore linebacker from Sioux Center, Iowa, was honored as the MVFC Defensive Player of the Week.

He registered a team-high 10 tackles and recorded a pair of takeaways. The Buck Buchanan Award nominee recovered a fumble in the third quarter and notched his first interception of the season in the fourth quarter.

Rozeboom, who notched double figures in tackles for the fifth time this season and 12th time in 21 career games, led a Jackrabbit defensive effort that held the Leathernecks to 285 yards of total offense – nearly 150 yards below their season average.

The Jackrabbits, ranked eighth by the FCS coaches and 10th in the STATS media poll, play host to second-ranked North Dakota State on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.
