World Day of Prayer event announced

BROOKINGS – Brookings Church Women United will celebrate World Day of Prayer at 2 p.m. March 6 at the United Church of Christ, 828 Eighth St. S., Brookings.

World Day of Prayer is an ecumenical movement of Christian women of many traditions who come together to observe a common day of prayer and action each year. Join in the prayer service written by the World Day of Prayer Committee of Zimbabwe and the USA Committee.

The theme is “Rise! Take Your Mat and Walk.” All church men and women are invited to this World Day of Prayer. An offering will be taken to support the Church Women United programs. Lunch and fellowship will follow the program. United Church of Christ is handicapped accessible.

Ecumenical Lenten Saturday morning Bible study planned

BROOKINGS – Al and Alice Lunden will host a free six-week 10 a.m. Saturday Lenten Bible study in the Cooper Room of the Brookings Public Library. The series began on Feb. 15. Christian spiritual empowerment and encouragement from Jesus’ Omega Miracle have neither ceased or dwindled in nearly 2,000 years, though some doubt. We must continue spiritual encouragement as Paul wrote to the Christians at Corinth and John to the seven churches in Asia Minor.

This Bible study will invite open discussion of the presence and power of Jesus’ Holy Spirit during the three Saturdays in February and will involve Jesus’ first miracle in March.

This free ecumenical Bible study is intended to strengthen faith in all our Christian churches rather than to favor any church or denomination. Please consider Saturday morning participation.

BYOBBNB! (Bring Your Own Breakfast Beverages and Bibles – but be sure drinks comply with library rules and guidelines).

Ecumenical Lenten lunches announced

BROOKINGS – Ecumenical Lenten lunches will be held on Wednesdays through Lent at First Lutheran Church in the Activity Center to sing, read God’s Word, pray and hear messages from community pastors.

Lunch is served beginning at 11:30 a.m., and worship begins at 12:10 p.m. The cost for the lunch is $6.50, with proceeds benefitting the Ministerial Voucher program that helps people in crisis with food, gas or shelter. On Wednesday, March 4, the speaker will be the Rev. Dave Schoeld from First Lutheran Church.

February tips go to Jack’s Closet, Jack’s Cupboard

The Mission of the Month for February at the Mission Coffeehouse at First Lutheran Church is Jack’s Closet.

Jack’s Closet is a newly established organization that is sponsored by the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Access.

The closet provides necessary winter clothing for students who are lacking adequate protection.

Jack’s Cupboard is a free resource for students who struggle financially to purchase food. Money donated goes toward purchase of food for the Cupboard.

The Cupboard is supported by SDSU students, faculty, staff and the community.
