Women Alive Conference announced

BROOKINGSS – Holy Life Tabernacle is hosting its 21st annual Women Alive Conference on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18-19. Women will be coming from many churches throughout South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa for this spirit-filled conference.

The guest speaker is Crystal Jones from Atlanta, Georgia. She will share from the Bible and bring a clear word of hope, healing and encouragement to all women.

Brookings area women are invited to this conference. The registration fee is $20. All meetings are held at Holy Life Tabernacle at 241 Mustang Pass in Brookings. Registration is on Friday, Oct. 18, from 5:30 – 7 p.m. followed by the first service. Services continue on Saturday. This conference will inspire and encourage you to have a more dynamic walk with the Lord.

World Community Day event planned

BROOKINGS – Church Women United will celebrate World Community Day at 2 p.m. Nov. 1 at First United Methodist Church, 625 Fifth St., Brookings, in the church basement.

The theme for this celebration is “The Time is Now! Resolve to Love.” World Community Day focuses on global peace and justice.

A regular offering will be taken to support the Church Women United programs. Coffee and fellowship will follow the program. All women and men are invited to this gathering. First United Methodist Church is handicapped accessible with an elevator by the north door by the parking lot.

Coffehouse tips help Special Olympics

BROOKINGS – The Mission of the Month at the Mission Coffeehouse at First Lutheran Church for October is Special Olympics Brookings.

Special Olympics athlete oath – “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”

Special Olympics Brookings contributes to the physical, social and psychological development of people with intellectual disabilities. Through successful experiences in sports, athletes gain confidence and build a positive self-image associated with success.

This success carries over into the classroom, the home and community. Special Olympics is committed to the highest ideals of sport and expects all athletes to honor sports and Special Olympics. All Special Olympics athletes agree to follow a code of conduct that addresses sportsmanship, training, competition and responsibility for actions. Special Olympics Brookings believes that quality training is crucial to success in sports.

The athletes train with qualified coaches for Special Olympics competition, as well as for general over-all physical fitness. At competitions, athletes are placed in divisions based upon age, gender and ability.

‘White Christmas’ Fair in White

WHITE – The Methodist Church in White will have its annual “White Christmas” Fair on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Crafts, baked items, jelly, produce, and attic treasures will be for sale. Coffee and rolls will be served, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and soup and sandwiches will be sold, beginning at 11 a.m.

Mmm ... lutefisk

LAKE CAMPBELL – The Lake Campbell Lutheran Church will hold its annual lutefisk supper on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The church is located at 46610 219th St., Volga.

Serving times are at 4:30 p.m., 5:45 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The menu includes: lutefisk, Swedish meatballs, lefse, flatbread, sweetsoup, holiday cookies and more. The cost is $18 for adults and $9 for children ages 6-12. Those 5 and younger eat for free.

Lake Campbell Lutheran is a handicap accessible church.

From the Heart sale announced

BROOKINGS – The From the Heart Christmas and craft sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Mission Coffee House gym in First Lutheran Church at 337 Eighth St.

Pumpkin painting in Aurora

AURORA – Impact Church in Aurora will hold a free pumpkin painting event on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

The event will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the church at 201 E. Pine St. in Aurora.

The event will also include hot dogs and games for all.

‘Fall Festival’ brunch in Flandreau

FLANDREAU – The Flandreau Christian Women’s Connection invites area residents to a “Fall Festival” brunch.

The event will be held from 9:30-11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the William F. Janklow Community Center in Flandreau.

The feature presentation will be “Recipe for Success,” as a variety of items will be sold at a silent auction.

There will be tables of gift baskets, craft items, holiday trims and a baker full of delicious food.

Debbie Pulscher of Flandreau will share her musical talent.

The speaker will be Marjo Keller of Breckenridge, Minnesota. Her speech will take participants on a journey from near death back to life through the power and miracles of God. A former beauty salon owner, she is an herbalist who enjoys making homemade health products.
