Coffeehouse tips go to Project Joy

BROOKINGS – The Mission of the Month for November at the Mission Coffehouse in First Lutheran Church is Project Joy. Project Joy is a charitable, nonprofit organization, dedicated to providing children and families living in Brookings County, who are in need, an opportunity to receive holiday gifts through the generous donations of individuals, businesses, and organizations. 

During the holiday season, Project Joy provides gifts to hundreds of children in Brookings County. Parents have the opportunity to “shop” for their children at a holiday “store” stocked with toys, gift cards and clothing generously donated by local businesses, churches, schools, individuals and community organizations.

Go on a ‘cookie walk’

BROOKINGS – The Lake Campbell Church will hold its “cookie walk” on Saturday, Dec. 4.

The event will begin a 9 a.m. Homemade cinnamon rolls, coffee and juice will be available.

A variety of homemade cookies, candies and bars will be sold with each person making a selection on a tray for $8 per pound. Packages of lefse will also be sold.

The church is located at 46610 219th St. (1 mile west of Lake Campbell). All proceeds are donated to mission projects. For more information, call 605-864-9907.

Purses, jewelry and Christmas decor sale to fund missions

BROOKINGS – First Lutheran Church of Brookings opens its Mission Coffeehouse doors for a weekend fundraiser on Dec. 10-12 with gently used and new purses, jewelry and Christmas decor being sold to support global ministries. New quilts of various sizes and other hand-sewn gifts will also be featured. New and refurbished gift items will be sold through a silent auction.

Friday hours are 9-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4 p.m.; Saturday 9-noon; Sunday 8-noon.

Right-to-life parade participation planned

There are two parade opportunities coming up soon with the Brookings Area Right to Life.

 Brookings: Friday, Dec. 3. Assemble at First Lutheran Church at Main Avenue and Eighth Street at 6:45 for the 7 p.m. parade.

• Volga: Saturday, Dec. 4. Assemble at First Lutheran Church at 623 Kasan Ave (in the southwest part of town) at 4:45 for a 5 p.m. parade.
