'Chutes split at Watertown

WATERTOWN – The ‘Chutes split with Watertown on Monday, winning 6-4 and then falling 4-3.

Brookings (14-6) heads to Harrisburg for a double dip Wednesday at noon.

Game 1

 Brookings 6, Watertown 4

The ‘Chutes scored four times in the top of the seventh to overcome six errors and post the victory.

Parker Winghart went 3-for-4.

He got it going in the final frame with a one-out single and Ashton Witte followed suit. After Justin Cofell hit into a fielder’s choice, Talon Richter walked to load the bases with two away.

Payton Theodosopoulos drove the ball to left field and an error on the play allowed Witte and Cofell to scamper home, tying the score at 4-all.

Trey Svennes came up next and stroked a two-run single to right to put Brookings on top.

Theodosopoulos finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Cofell had a hit and an RBI, with Richter and Braden Clifford chipping in with singles.

Theodosopoulos earned the win in relief, allowing three runs – none earned – on just one hit with two Ks in a pair of innings.

Lincoln Hardin gave up one run on six hits with six strikeouts over the first five.

Game 2

The hosts scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory.

The ‘Chutes scored all three of their runs in the first.

Hardin walked and scored on Witte’s one-out double.

Josh Devine followed with an RBI single. He proceeded to swipe second, take third on an error and score on Cofell’s groundout.

Hardin finished 3-for-3. Theodosopoulos doubled.

Witte allowed one run on three hits with five strikeouts and four walks in five innings. Svennes took the loss after surrendering three runs on five hits with a pair of punchouts in 1 2/3.

Watertown’s Cole Holden knotted the score with a two-run single in the seventh. Andrew Czech had the walkoff hit with two away.
