'Chutes split with Kings in Renner

RENNER – The ‘Chutes split a doubleheader with the Kings on Friday evening, winning the opener 7-3 and dropping the nightcap 6-0.

Brookings (13-5) plays a twinbill at Watertown tonight at 5.

Game 1

 Brookings 7, Renner 3

The ‘Chutes used a pair of three-run innings to pick up the victory.

Their three-run third made it 4-2 and they added a three-spot in the sixth to push the margin to 7-2.

Josh Devine allowed three runs – one earned – on seven hits with seven strikeouts and four walks in 6 2/3 innings. Ashton Witte recorded the final out.

Leadoff hitter Lincoln Hardin went 3-for-5 and scored three times. He had a two-RBI double in the sixth.

Witte had two hits and a pair of RBIs. Parker Winghart added two hits.

Devine stroked a two-run double in the third frame.

Justin Cofell contributed an RBI and Sam Hardin recorded a hit.

Carter Petersen tossed a seven-hit shutout for the Kings, striking out 10 batters and walking a pair.

Cofell (double) and Winghart both recorded two hits for Brookings.

Lincoln Hardin tripled, with Ethan Molengraaf and Jett Leddy adding singles.

Cofell surrendered six runs – four earned – on 11 hits with a walk and a strikeout in six innings.
