‘Chutes sweep Harrisburg in DH

BROOKINGS – The ‘Chutes swept Harrisburg in a Junior Legion doubleheader Tuesday, winning by the scores of 8-2 and 10-9.

Brookings (7-6) hosts Renner in a twinbill Thursday at 3 p.m.

Game 1

 Brookings 8, Harrisburg 2

The ‘Chutes broke open a tie game with six runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Nathan Lease drove in four runs, finished 2-for-4.

He also tossed a complete game, allowing just two runs – one earned – on five hits with four strikeouts. He did not issue a free pass.

Carter Wright (single), Nolan Miles and Isaac Schulte added RBIs.

Austin Clark went 2-for-4.

Game 2

The ‘Chutes put up a nine-spot in the first frame but needed seventh-inning heroics to complete the sweep.

Austin Clark and Owen Schneider drew one-out walks. The former scampered home on an error on Justin Cofell’s batted ball to seal the victory.

Cofell ended up 3-for-5 with a double and a pair of RBIs.

Breck Hirrschoff had two hits as he and Andrew Bishop (single) both drove in two runs.

Nathan Lease (double) and Trenton Pederson added RBIs.

Schneider earned the win in relief, giving up just one hit over 3 1/3 scoreless innings. He struck out four and walked one.
