BROOKINGS – The ‘Chutes used a pitching gem by Kyle Bauer and a walkoff from Ashton Witte to sweep Mitchell in a Junior Legion baseball doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Bob Shelden Field.
Post 74 won 2-0 and 6-5.
Brookings (14-13) is host to Yankton in another twinbill today at noon.

Bauer tossed a three-hit shutout and drove in a run as the ‘Chutes topped Post 18 in the opener.
He struck out seven batters and did not issue a free pass.
Max Struck reached on an error to open the bottom of the first inning. Jamison Honkomp singled to put runners on the corners.
Jake Ammann drove in Struck with a sacrifice fly to center.
In the fifth, Ammann and Bauer came through with back-to-back doubles with two away to make it 2-0.
Honkomp finished 2-for-3, adding a double to lead off the third.
Mitchell’s Tate DeBoer allowed two runs – one earned – on four hits and five walks with six strikeouts in six innings.

The ‘Chutes put up three runs in the bottom of the seventh to complete the sweep.
Struck got it going with a single. Max Kjelden followed with an RBI double and Honkomp stroked an RBI single to knot the score at 5-all.
Bauer’s hit with one away put runners on the corners.
Witte came up next and hit a groundball to third. An error on the play allowed him to reach safely, as Honkomp scampered home for the winning run.
Struck, Kjelden, Honkomp and Bauer each went 2-for-4 as Post 74 totaled 11 hits.
Struck earned the win in relief, allowing one hit with one walk in two innings.
Ammann, the starter, surrendered five runs – three earned – on five hits with seven strikeouts and a pair of walks in five innings.
Pot 18 opened the scoring in the second.
Evan DeMaranville reached on an error and moved to second on Josh Grosdidier’s sacrifice. Nick Lord walked.
The ‘Chutes turned a double play; however, DeMaranville scored on an error on the play.
In the third, Masen Thompson drew a one-out walk. Tate Ellwein was hit by a pitch with two away, before Jonah Schmidt’s single loaded the bases. DeMaranville was beaned, forcing in Thompson. Grosdidier’s run-scoring single made it 3-0 in favor of the visitors.
Brookings got on the board in the fourth.
Honkomp and Ammann had back-to-back singles. Bauer bunted and an errant throw to third allowed Honkomp to sprint home. Witte reached on an error. Trey Svennes’ RBI single cut the deficit to 3-2.
A lineout and a double play helped Mitchell avoid further damage.
Post 18 scored twice in the fifth.
With one out, Ellwein singled, Schmidt reached on an error and DeMaranville was hit by a pitch. Grosdidier was also beaned to force in Ellwein and Lord tacked on an RBI single to make it 5-2.
Brookings pulled within 5-3 in the sixth.
Bauer doubled and Witte singled. Bebensee hit into a fielder’s choice, as Bauer ran home.
Grosdidier totaled a pair of RBIs for Mitchell.
Colby Gilden took the loss on the mound after giving up six runs – four earned – on 11 hits in 6 1/3 innings.
