City councilors to meet Friday

BROOKINGS – The Brookings City Council has called a special meeting for Friday, starting with an executive session at noon and a special meeting starting at 3:15 p.m. in the City & County Government Center.

The executive session has been called for the purpose of discussing the qualifications, competence, performance, character or fitness of any public officer or employee or prospective public officer or employee. The term “employee” does not include any independent contractor.

There are two items on the agenda of the public meeting that is scheduled to start at 3:15 p.m.

The first public hearing is for an amendment for a development being planned for the former Pizza Ranch location on Sixth Street. The old building, which was 5,300 square feet, has been demolished and a new multi-tenant building is being proposed for the site, according to the attachment to the agenda available on the city’s website.

“The owners are proposing to construct a new 7,280-square-foot shopping plaza with either three or four tenant spaces. A landscaped patio area will serve as an amenity on the south side of the building and satisfy the foundation planting requirement. The uses will be consistent with those listed in the B-2 District,” according to the attachment.

The second public hearing is for a temporary alcohol application from Aramark Education Services for an engineering administration gathering on Aug. 22 at the South Dakota State University Alumni Center.
