BROOKINGS – The 22nd Avenue Reconstruction Project between Minnesota Drive and Eastbrook Drive has been progressing, the City of Brookings reported Wednesday.

Construction crews were able to make significant progress with the arrival of the dry weather. Concrete paving has been completed north of Third Street. Crews also installed driveways, sidewalk and the multi-use path between Third Street and Minnesota Drive.

For the area south of Third Street, crews completed subgrade preparation and placement of base course down to Yorkshire Drive. That area is being prepared for concrete paving this week. The contractor also started installation of conduit and wiring for the traffic signal at the intersection of Olwien Street.

Crews also started removals in the area south of Yorkshire Drive and underground utilities will begin in that area.

Due to the road construction in front of the Larson Park entrance, the public is asked to access the Larson Park parking lot through the Larson Manufacturing/Weather Star parking lot on the north side of Eastbrook Drive. When driving through the Larson Manufacturing/Weather Star parking lot, the public should drive safely and at slow speeds.

Public meetings are held at the office of Civil Design Inc., 609 Main Ave. S., Brookings. The meetings are held every other Thursday at 3:30 p.m. The upcoming meeting dates are Aug. 22, Sept. 5 and Sept. 19.

“The public is encouraged to drive safely through the detour areas. The City of Brookings appreciates the public’s patience during the construction project,” the city’s press release says.
