BROOKINGS – The City of Brookings has announced Dustin Rodiek as the next Parks, Recreation and Forestry director.

Rodiek was selected after a nationwide recruitment and selection process of approximately 60 applications. All who applied were experienced professionals from all over the Midwest, according to a City of Brookings press release.

Currently Rodiek is the owner of First Choice Property Management, Inc., based in Watertown. Prior to owning his own business, he was the director at Joy Ranch, located in Florence, and the director of Parks, Recreation & Forestry for the City of Mitchell.

Within his previous positions, Rodiek provided management and development of city parks, trails and greenbelt areas. He was involved in budget preparation and administration as well as long-range planning.

He displayed excellence in many areas, including the development of community partnerships and support, and he oversaw many facilities such as the city municipal pool, baseball and softball fields, formal gardens and a 1,000-person open air amphitheater, the City of Brookings press release reported.

City Manager Paul Briseno said he “is extremely pleased to have Dusty join the City of Brookings organization and community. Dusty will bring with him the experience we desire to continue to help make our Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department successful well into the future.”

Rodiek will begin his employment with the City of Brookings on Monday, June 17.
