BROOKINGS – The City of Brookings announced Friday that after reevaluation of current COVID-19 circumstances and conditions, it will extend closures and cancellations of city-operated facilities and events through May 6, extending the original April 6 date.
This extension applies to all city offices, facilities, and city-operated businesses. City of Brookings related events and activities scheduled through May 6 are also canceled or postponed at this time, including those provided by the Brookings Public Library and the Brookings Park and Recreation Department.
The facilities and offices are closed to the public; however, city departments continue to operate and provide services to the community. Residents should contact city departments by phone, email and through online services to submit requests, applications, and to make payments, etc. The city encourages the public to utilize their new Engage Brookings App and website service to make requests and to contact departments directly. The app is available through the app stores and by visiting the City of Brookings website at www.cityofbrookings.org.
This announcement does not include an extension of Emergency Ordinance 20-005. A recommended extension of the ordinance will be requested at the April 8 City Council meeting, and a determination will be made at that time by City Council.
"The City wants to thank the Brookings community for its outstanding efforts and collaboration during this trying time. Community members are encouraged to continue to practice social distancing, wash hands frequently, and to stay home if they are sick. The City will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and will provide updates as necessary," a press release says.
