Clara M. Norgaard, 90, of Arlington, died Friday, April 28, 2017, at the Brookings hospital.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arlington. Burial is in the Arlington City Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in Arlington and preceding services in the church on Thursday.
Clara Marie Holm was born on Oct. 24, 1926, at Arlington, Kingsbury County, to Trygve and Anna (Petersen) Holm. She attended country school near Arlington in Brookings and Kingsbury counties.
In 1940 she was confirmed in the Lake Whitewood Lutheran Church. In 1945 she married Roy Elton Falconer of rural Lake Preston.
They began farming north of Ramona and had children. Following her divorce in 1958, Clara went to Stewarts School of Hairstyling in Sioux Falls. After graduating she started a beauty shop in De Smet and Arlington. She did beauty work for around 50 years.
Clara married Howard Norgaard on Dec. 23, 1960 in Sioux Falls and together purchased a home in Arlington. Howard had three children from a previous marriage and the family was united.
On March 28, 1966, Clara gave birth to her youngest child. Howard and Clara lived in the same home until late 2013 when Howard became ill and the couple moved to Parkview Apartments.
Clara was dedicated to her family and enjoyed hairstyling, pottery, music, dancing, painting, bowling and gardening. She loved her flowers and pets.
Clara suffered a heart attack on March 29, 2017 and fought a delicate battle with congestive heart failure. She had been in and out of the hospital for the last month.
Survivors include six children, Vern (Sandy) Falconer of Arlington, Don Falconer of Arlington, Ronnie (Trina) Norgaard of Arlington, Sheila (Chuck) Ross of Pierre, Cheryl Lottman of Sioux Falls and Steven (Beverly) Norgaard of Badger; many grandchildren and many many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard.
