Clarence ‘Chuck ’ Steen

Col. (USAF RET) Clarence “Chuck” H. Steen, 95,  died April 26, 2017.  

Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.

He was born June 9, 1921 in Brookings.  

His military career began in the South Dakota Army National Guard in February 1941.   He was commissioned and received pilots wings in January 1943. He flew a tour in the 8th AF in B-17s.  Following World War II his assignments were in Research and Development with duty stations at the Pentagon, Wright-Patterson AFB, Paris, France, Brussels, Belgium and Andrews AFB.  

After Air Force retirement he was an instructor at the Defense Systems Management College.  

Preceded in death are his parents Elmer and Ruth Steen, brother Wayne, sister Betty all of Brookings, and wife Mary Elizabeth (Bette) Pinson Steen.  

He is survived by his son Charles, daughter Joan and a granddaughter.
