Colman-Egan girls take Region 4B title

ELKTON – The Colman-Egan girls and Chester Area boys won team championships at the Region 4B Track and Field Meet on Thursday.

The top two finishers in each event and those achieving in-season qualifying standards advanced to the Class B State Track and Field Meet, to be held Friday, May 24-Saturday, May-25, at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.

Girls

The Hawks racked up 139 points to edge second-place Hanson (138). Elkton-Lake Benton (80) was fourth and Oldham-Ramona/Rutland (15) finished ninth.

Freshman Mackenzie Hemmer led Colman-Egan, winning the 100-meter hurdles in 16.29 seconds and the 300 hurdles with a 50.12 clocking.

Defending state champion Josie Mousel cleared 5 feet, 2 inches to place first in the high jump.

The eighth-grader was runner-up in the 200 in 27.41 seconds.

Sophomore Olivia Baumberger won the long jump with a mark of 16-3 3/4.

The Hawks placed first in the 4x100- (52.47) and 4x200-meter (1:50.82) relays.

The Lady Elks’ Julia Drietz won the triple jump at 32-9. Emily Miller took the pole vault crown with a height of 6-6.

Brooklyn Nielsen was second in the 400 (1:05.13) and Kayla Goertz matched that finish in the pole vault (6-0).

The Raiders qualified for state in the medley relay after taking second in 4:44.42.

Boys

Chester Area had 124 points and Hanson was second at 117. Elkton-Lake Benton (86) finished third, Colman-Egan (93) fourth and Oldham-Ramona/Rutland (54) seventh.

The Elks won four events.

Grant DeRuyter placed first in the 400 in 55.28 seconds.

Miles Harming crossed first in the 3,200 with an 11:14.89 clocking.

Isaac Jaacks finished in front in the 110 hurdles in 17.08.

Danial Nelson was tops in the pole vault with a height of 10-9.

The Hawks’ Alec Landis won the discus with a heave of 138-5 and the shot with a put of 44-6.

Ryan Voelker won the 300 hurdles (42.99) and Dalton Voelker was first in the shot put (47-6 1/4). Eli Bowen was runner-up in the 200 (24.68) and Colman-Egan finished second in the 4x200 relay (1:38.1).

The Raiders’ Isaac Hegdahl placed second in the 110 hurdles (17.34). ORR was second in the 4x800 (9:11.49).
