Colman shuts out Salem to improve to 9-1

SALEM – Billy Stitz led off two innings with home runs while Austin Ross tossed a complete-game shutout as Colman downed Salem, 5-0, in Corn Belt baseball action on Sunday.

Stitz spotted the A’s a 1-0 lead in the fifth and Deon Entringer followed up with another solo shot to make it 2-0.

Ian Barker and Ross hit back-to-back singles to set the table, and Bob Clark and Chris Meyer came through as both drove in a run for a 4-0 advantage through 4 1/2 innings.

Stitz added another solo shot to lead off the sixth and Ross made the lead hold up as he scattered eight hits, walked one Salem batter and struck out nine for the win.

Stitz tallied three hits on the day and Barker had two, while Mike Preheim, Adam Fritz and Aaron Entringer chipped in with singles as the A’s totaled 11 base hits.

Colman, 9-1 overall and 7-1 in the Corn Belt, play host to Flandreau on Tuesday and Canova on Thursday.
