Columnist Carl Kline: Pursuing money versus pursuing meaning

A word that is often used in religious circles for ones’ choice of vocation is “calling.” For instance, one doesn’t make a decision to “pursue” the ministry, one is “called” to the ministry. It’s as if there is an inner director or outer divinity pursuing you, and even if you run in the other direction, denying you are being pursued, eventually you will have to face the reality of your pursuer.
