BROOKINGS – Kayla Aman, Brookings Hy-Vee’s registered dietitian, had about 10 youngsters in the store’s kitchen last Saturday for one of her Kids in the Kitchen classes.

Aman gave some hands-on lessons, helping kids make chicken nachos. She also helped them prepare a fresh fruit salad that was then combined with yogurt and granola and served in waffle ice cream cones to make “healthy fruit treats.”

Aman’s goal is “to get the kids to be comfortable in the kitchen.” She also promotes good nutrition. “We try to get most of the food groups into most of the classes,” she added.
