BROOKINGS – The Brookings Convention & Visitors Bureau, in collaboration with Downtown at Sundown, has announced the lineup for the 2018 summer music series in downtown Brookings, kicking off at 5 p.m. every Thursday starting July 12.

Downtown at Sundown is seven nights of sunshine, live music, cold drinks, local food and a friendly atmosphere. Now in its fourth summer, Downtown at Sundown offers a family-friendly night out with free admission and free kids activities. Each week features a different local opener and headliner band, while food vendors and retail booths offer a little something for everyone.

To end the summer with a bang (and something new this year), Downtown at Sundown will kick off at its normal starting time of 5 p.m. and end an hour later at 10 p.m. Aug. 23 with country rock and roll artist The Nathan Dean Band. This event would not be possible without the support of the City of Brookings and headliner sponsor First Bank & Trust.

The 2018 lineup includes:

July 12, SGT ROCK

Breaking it down on the first night is the 147th Army Band, SGT ROCK. Bring your dancing shoes as this band does it all, from pop hits to rock and roll classics. Their dynamic vocals and killer dance moves will have everyone out of their seats, clapping their hands and wanting more.

July 19, David Gerald

All the way from Detroit to Brookings, David Gerald is bringing his brand of blues, R&B and rock to the stage. His blues-infused rock and soul hybrid hits all the right notes, throwing it back to Albert King, B.B. King and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Expect to hear some classic tunes mixed with original songs.

July 26, Soca Jukebox

This five-piece ensemble will transport you to the islands with a blend of reggae, calypso, country and rasta-goodness. Folks of all ages will enjoy the charisma, humor and shimmering steel pans that is Soca Jukebox.

Aug. 2, Whosah

Hailing from across the border in Minnesota, Whosah is a personal indie pop band featuring an eclectic mix of techno beats and meaningful lyrics. These five young men are pursuing the music they love and put on a great show while doing so.

Aug. 9, Avenger Joe

Bringing it back home is Aurora’s very own Kaila Dakota combining her band “On The Run” to form Avenger Joe. This five-member band specializes in country pop and rock music. They’ve shared the stage with Sawyer Brown, Rascal Flatts, Jake Owen and Hairball, just to name a few.

Aug. 16, Kirsten Thien

Returning to the stage all the way from New York City is the Kirsten Thien Band. Kirsten’s mix of blues, R&B, and soulful jazz brings together old-world Chicago, with New Orleans flavor and a Memphis kick. Her influences include Otis Redding, B.B. King, and Aretha Franklin.

Aug. 23, The Nathan Dean Band

Rounding out the season and leaving us wanting more is The Nathan Dean Band from Arizona. These four country guys bring a whole lot of passion to the stage, featuring a mix of your favorite country rock and roll roots, as well as a few originals.
