Consideration of Phase 2 pandemic response removed from council agenda

BROOKINGS – The Brookings City Council agenda for Tuesday, Oct. 20, has been amended to remove the last item on the agenda, discussion and potential first reading of Ordinance 20-029, which could have moved the city into a Phase 2 pandemic response if officials deemed it necessary.
The meeting starts at 5 p.m. in the city council chambers at the Brookings City & County Government Center.
Phase 2, which the city implemented in March at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, could have included the closure of bars, restaurants, salons, theaters, gyms, and other facilities. Carryout was permitted.
Items on tonight's agenda now include:
• Discussion on Ordinance 20-010 renewal and mask mandate
• Discussion on Public Works Department establishment
• Introduction and first reading on Ordinance 20-028, an emergency ordinance amending Emergency Ordinance 20-010, as previously amended, to extend and to comprehensively adopt provisions to address a public health crisis and to revise certain measures which are necessary for the immediate preservation of the public health, safety and welfare of the city and are necessary to slow the community spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the City of Brookings, South Dakota. Second reading: Oct. 27, 2020.
