Cossack boys blow out Cardinals, 75-45

VOLGA – The Sioux Valley boys basketball team cruised to their fifth-straight victory Tuesday night after beating Deuel 75-45.

The Cossacks scored early and often as they outscored the Cardinals 26-10 in the first quarter. With a 46-21 lead heading into the third quarter, Sioux Valley kept their foot on the pedal as they outscored Deuel 17-12 in the quarter. Each team scored 12 in the final quarter.

Ryan Schuster had a huge night for the Cossacks (15-1, 4-0 LCC) with 24 points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Max Nielson had 17 points, five assists and four rebounds. Parker Peutz had 10 points and Lane VanderWal had eight.

The Cardinals (3-13, 0-4) were led by Sutton Fritz who had 13 points and five rebounds. Zane Bingham had 10 points and Cooper Schiernbeck had eight.

Sioux Valley shot 51.8% from the field and were 8-22 from three. They held the Cardinals to 34% shooting and Deuel was 5-19 from three. The Cossacks outrebounded the Cardinals 33-22.

The Cossacks will play at Parker on Saturday and the Cardinals will take on Tiopsa Zina on the road on Thursday.
