Cossack boys, Blue Dragon girls win Sioux Valley Invite

VOLGA – The host Cossacks won the boys’ team title and Garretson prevailed on the girls’ side during the Sioux Valley Cross Country Invite on Tuesday afternoon at Meadow Creek.

Boys

Sioux Valley totaled 28 points to edge runner-up Flandreau (29). Madison (64) was third.

Arlington (148) took 10th.

Estelline/Hendricks sophomore Riley Benning placed first in the 5K race with a time of 17 minutes, 35.87 seconds.

The Cossacks’ Max Nielson crossed in second with a 17:48.67 clocking.

Garretson’s Preston Bohl (17:51.59) placed third.

Sioux Valley’s Colby Gatzke ended up fourth in 18:09.43.

The Fliers’ Austin Kulm (18:11.35) and Gabe Hobbie (18:15.53) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

Sioux Valley’s Kelton Vincent (18:17.79) placed seventh and Flandreau’s David Allen (18:29.86) was eighth. De Smet’s Baylor Beck (18:37.08) was ninth and Madison’s Aspen Dahl (18:38.94) 10th.

Evan Rathbun (18:52.99) ended up 19th to round out the Cossacks’ team score.

Lars Dailey (18:44.17) took 14th to complete the Fliers’ team tally.

The Redhawks’ Dallis Trego (19:23.58) and Justin Buschenfeld (19:24.42) were 22nd and 23rd, respectively.

Scoring for the Cardinals, Ryker Erstad (19:31.57) was 26th, Dylan Geary (20:16.94) 37th, Dylan Singrey (21:33.97) 50th and Mathew Steffensen (24:17.8) 64th.

Also for Sioux Valley, Cade Gross (19:42.73) was 30th, Brayden Squires (21:37.43) 51st, Dylan Strouth (21:39.35) 52nd and Eli Wiese (23:25.14) 62nd.

Also for Flandreau, Liam Streitz (19:28.73) and Samuel Gassman (19:30.16) took 24th and 25th, respectively, and John Eng (21:49.99) was 54th.

Girls

The Blue Dragons put four runners in the top eight to finish with 21 points and run away with the team crown.

West Central (54) finished second and Flandreau (58) third.

Estelline/Hendricks (66) ended up fourth and Sioux Valley (134) was eighth.

Deuel’s Kenzie Hamann was medalist, posting a time of 20:30.8 in the 5K.

The Fliers’ Reese Olinger placed second in 20:46.55.

Garretson’s Mikayla Heesch (20:53.2) and Payton Campbell (21:12.11) were third and fourth, respectively.

Hannah Parsley crossed in fifth for Flandreau with a 21:23.49 clocking.

The Blue Dragons’ Jordyn Williams (21:26.87) was sixth and teammate Kylie Christensen (21:52.63) ended up eighth to complete Garretson’s team score.

Jesade Siverson paced the Redhawks, taking seventh in 21:48.88. Sadie Johnson crossed in 21:56.14 to place ninth.

Great Plains Lutheran’s Hannah Kratz (21:57.38) rounded out the top 10.

The Fliers’ Cassidy Keith (23:06.41) came in 24th and Elizabeth Pavlis (23:39.34) was 32nd to complete the team tally.

Finishing off Estelline/Hendricks’ score, Kaylee Johnson (23:09.74) took 25th and Kaylee Faehnrich (23:30.62) finished 30th.

The Cossacks’ Alison Jacobson (23:48.31) and Abby Haaland (23:53.8) were 33rd and 34th, respectively; while Olivia Sheets (24:23.82) took 39th and Kendra Hiltunen (24:31.5) 40th.

Arlington’s Jada Henriksen (23:02.11) finished 23rd, Harley Johnson (23:11.74) 26th and Victoria Donovan (24:32.12) 41st.
