FLANDREAU – Speedster Jaxton Schiller had a monster night as third-ranked Sioux Valley beat Flandreau 34-12 on Friday night.

He carried the ball 12 times for 224 yards – an 18.67 average – and found the end zone four times.

“Schiller had a big night,” said Cossack coach Dan Hughes. “He had some big runs and some big gains.”

Sioux Valley finished with a 462-194 advantage in total yards of offense, including 420-166 on the ground.

“I loved our energy; our intensity was definitely better,” added Hughes. “The kids played hard for the get-go and looked good tonight.”

Schiller got it going with an 18-yard scoring scamper at the 7:58 mark of the first. Mckade Rentsch ran in the two-point conversion.

Flandreau got on the board with 11:02 left in the second as tight end Tash Lunday caught a 7-yard pass from Tanner Christenson.

Schiller counter with TD rushes of 9 and 35 yards, with Rentsch running in the two-pointer on the latter.

Conner Logan’s 1-yard TD plunge with 3:59 showing on the clock made it 28-6 at halftime. A 42-yard connection from Parker Puetz to Carson Christopherson to the 1-yard-line set up the TD.

Schiller got loose from 64 yards out with 8:54 remaining in the game.

The Fliers’ Tathan Headrick had an 11-yard scoring scamper with 3:34 to go.

Rentsch finished with 78 yards on 15 rushes.

Christopherson had 11 tackles and Ashton Bultje nine to pace the defense.

The Cossacks improved to 3-1. They bounced back from a 21-12 home loss to No. 2 Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan.

“They kept their nose down and improved all week,” noted Hughes. “We had some things we wanted to improve on and they, from what I saw, took a step forward this week. Got a lot better.”

For the Fliers, Headrick had 75 yards on four rushes and Ethan Hoffman ran 18 times for 48 yards.

Christenson was 3-of-10 for 28 yards. Lunday had two catches covering 24 yards.
