RAPID CITY – Sioux Valley made it 11 consecutive titles on Friday night as the Cossack cheer team triumphed at the Class A State Competitive Cheer and Dance event at Carold Heier Gymnasium.
The Cossacks were sharp, earning a score of 261 to easily outdistance runner-up Dakota Valley (228.5). Dell Rapids (225.5) was third and Dell Rapids St. Mary (218) fourth.
“Tonight’s performance was exactly how we wanted to end our season,” said Sioux Valley coach Casie King. “Not only did the Cossacks execute well, the girls looked like they were really enjoying themselves and that’s all I can ask for as a coach.
“I’m glad they could come off the floor with the excitement they did.”
Arlington/Lake Preston took the small squad championship with a score of 214.5, putting the Badgers in fifth place overall.
Deubrook Area had a 177.5.
The Dolphins were seventh amongst small squads and 12th overall.
Dakota Valley won the dance title with a 277 total, as Platte-Geddes (232.83) took second and Winner Area (214.83) third.
The Panthers were tops in kick (279), jazz (270.6) and pom (281.5). The Black Panthers had the best score in hip hop (244.5).
