Cossacks crush Fliers on Homecoming

VOLGA – The Cossacks rolled to 56-8 blow out win over the Fliers in their homecoming game.

Parker Puetz was 5-for-11 with 146 yards and four touchdowns. He also had two touchdown runs. Jaxton Schiller ran for 81 yards on six attempts and had two touchdowns. He also had two receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown.

The scoring started early for Sioux Valley as Schiller caught a 35-yard touchdown 1:27 into the game. Damien Danziesen then had a 30-yard touchdown reception with 7:06 left in the first quarter to make it 14-0.

Puetz threw his third touchdown of the game with 2:29 left in the first quarter. Lane VanderWal was on the receiving end from 28 yards out to make it 22-0. Puetz started off the second quarter with a 15-yard touchdown run and Schiller ran in his second touchdown of the game from 27 yards out to make it 36-0.

Flandreau got on the scoreboard with a 6-yard touchdown reception from David Allen to make it 36-6. Sioux Valley responded with a 3-yard Puetz touchdown run and Schiller 6-yard touchdown run to make it 52-6 at halftime.

The game ended when Carson Chistopherson scored on a 12-yard run to make it 58-6. Christopherson ended with 60 yards rushing on eight attempts. The Cossacks out-rushed the Fliers 320 to 49.

Tanner Christenson went 3-for-10 for 37 yards and a touchdown for Flandreau. Christenson had four attempts for 16 yards and Matt Pauley had 33 yards on 12 carries.

The Cossacks will play at Elk Point-Jefferson and the Fliers will host Garretson next week.

Oldham-Ramona/Rutlan 24, Elkton-Lake Benton 22 (F/OT)

ELKTON – The Raiders topped the Elks in overtime behind a big performance from quarterback Will Matson.

Matson threw for 130 yards, had two rushing touchdowns and a punt return for a touchdown. His first rushing touchdown opened the nights scoring when he ran it in from 1-yard out to give the Raiders a 8-0 lead.

Bryson Sik tied the game with a 4-yard touchdown run with 1:51 left in the first half. The Elks took the lead on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Matt Nibbe to Riley Hunter with 8:25 left in the third quarter.

With the Elks leading 16-8, Matson took a punt to the house with 49.7 seconds left in the game. The Raiders would then tie the game with a two-point conversion and the game would head to overtime.

The Raiders got the ball first and Matson scored on a 10-yard run. They converted the two-point conversion to make it 24-16. Aiden Erickson then threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Grant DeRuiter. Nibbe then threw an incomplete pass on the two-point conversion and the game ended.

Nibbee went 4-for-9 with 73 yards. He also had 10 tackles on defense. Sik ran for 71 yards on 14 carries and Grant Deruiter finished with three catches for 27 yards. The Elks ran for 207 yards and the Raiders ran 101.

The Raiders have a bye and the Elks will travel to Hamlin next week.

   

Castlewood 24, Estelline/Hendricks 0

ESTELLINE – The Warriors shut out the Redhawks on the road Friday night.

Kaden Eng had a 49-yard touchdown run and a 15-yard touchdown reception for Castlewood. Tristen Nelson threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. Garret Kirkvliet had a 30-yard touchdown reception. 

Marcis Hausman ran for 75 yards and threw for 42 yards for the Redhawks. Harrison Wegner ran for 25 yards and Hunter Miller had three receptions for 36 yards.

The Warriors have a bye and the Redhawks will travel to De Smet next week.
