Cossacks, Dolphins, Cardinals earn sweeps

VOLGA – Sioux Valley cruised past De Smet 25-18, 25-10, 25-4 in a Lake Central Conference volleyball match Tuesday night.

Lynsey Stevens finished with 10 kills and seven of the Cossacks’ 22 service aces.

Nikole Ziegler and Bryn Tvedt had eight kills apiece. Miakken Vincent totaled six aces, a block and 11 digs. Rachel Miller dished out 25 set assists and netted four aces.

The Lady Bulldogs (6-4, 1-1) got 18 digs from Lyric Gruenhagen and 15 by Madi Miller. Kristen Poppen notched four kills and two blocks.

Sioux Valley (6-3, 3-0) heads to Castlewood on Thursday.


• Deubrook Area 3, Waubay/Summit 0

TORONTO – Ashley Vandermeer had 14 kills and a block as the Dolphins beat the Mustangs 25-10, 25-13, 25-16.

Shaylee DeBeer totaled seven kills, five aces, 12 set assists and a block. Cortney Bauman collected 14 digs and Courtni Frank 12. Tori Berndt netted four aces. Sarah Urevig dished out 14 set assists.

For Waubay/Summit (2-8), Kelsey Pearson had 10 kills.

Deubrook (8-3) heads to the Hamlin Tournament on Saturday.


• Arlington 3, Milbank 0

ARLINGTON – Junior libero Jeryn Christensen surpassed the 1,000 digs mark for her career as the Cardinals won 25-18, 25-8, 25-13.

Lindsay Rowbotham notched 14 kills, Angela Fuhr 11 and Jayna Haufschild 10.

Mady Gilbertson netted five aces, with Marissa Baker and Haufschild adding two apiece. Baker dished out 26 set assists.

Christensen totaled 19 digs in the match, while Haufschild and Gilbertson contributed 14 apiece.

Molly Rick had 11 kills and 11 digs for the Bearcats (3-5).

Arlington (10-5) competes in the Lake Preston Tournament on Saturday.


• Great Plains Lutheran 3, Estelline 0

ESTELLINE – The Panthers prevailed by the set scores of 25-14, 25-22 and 25-20.

Natalie Lendt and Kendra Schlecht had seven kills apiece for GPL (5-8).

The Lady Redmen’s Brinn Begalka had six kills, Marissa Gola and Kylie Beare added five apiece and Tasha Vohlken tallied three.

Golas tallied three aces. Chandelle Thompson came up with 12 digs.

Estelline (0-8) plays host to Hendricks, Minn., on Thursday.


• Hendricks, Minn., 3, Colman-Egan 0

COLMAN – Sophie Johnson collected 21 kills and went 15-for-15 at the service line with six aces as the Grizzlies picked up a 25-21, 25-16, 25-23 nonconference win over the Hawks.

Colman-Egan’s Katie Hannasch had six kills and two solo blocks. Olivia Baumberger totaled five kills and four blocks (three solo). Savannah Moore added five kills as she and Jordan Wittrock both finished with 11 set assists. Braiden Westley (17) and Elizabeth Moore (16) combined for 33 digs and also had three aces apiece.
