Cossacks, Fliers, Pheasants get Big East Conference Tournament wins


BALTIC – Sioux Valley defeated Chester Area 65-20 Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the Big East Conference Tournament. 

The Cossacks (6-0) outscored the Flyers 22-1 in the first quarter and didn’t look back. Chester put up more of a fight in the second quarter getting outscored 21-15. Sioux Valley then put the clamps on in the second half allowing the Flyers to only score four points.

Kelton Vincent led Sioux Valley with 19 points. Ryan Schuster had 13 points and six points. Max Nielson had 11 points, three rebounds and three assists. Chester (0-8) was led by Stratton Eppard who had four points and eight rebounds. Jovi Wolf had five points.

The Cossacks shot 43.4% from the field and were 12-34 from three. They held the Flyers to 19.4% shooting and Chester was 2-11 from three. Sioux Valley outrebounded Chester 34-26.

McCook Central/Montrose defeated Baltic 73-48 so Sioux Valley will face MCM in the semifinals tonight at 7:30 p.m. Chester will face Baltic at 6 p.m. tonight.

• Flandreau 61, Garretson 49

FLANDREAU – The Fliers used a good first quarter to propel them to Big East Conference Tournament quarterfinal victory. Flandreau outscored Garretson 21-13 and carried that lead the rest of the way.
Tash Lunday led the Fliers (4-2) with 17 points and nine rebounds. Chase LeBrun had 16 points and seven rebounds. Alex Anderson had 14 points, four rebounds and three assists.

The Blue Dragons (1-5) were led by Trey Buckenberg who had 15 points and four rebounds. Lucas Fitzgerald had seven points and eight rebounds. Cooper Long had 10 points.

 Parker 43, Beresford 35

FLANDREAU – The Pheasants advanced to the semifinals of the Big East Conference Tournament by pulling away from the Watchdogs in the fourth quarter. It was 28-26 entering the fourth and Parker outscored Beresford 15-9 in the final frame.

Kaden Pesicka led Parker (6-1) with 14 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Carter Robinson had 10 points, seven rebounds and two assists.

Parker will take on Flandreau in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. tonight and Beresford will face Garretson at 6 p.m.
