Cossacks handle Warriors, win LCC title outright

CASTLEWOOD – The Cossacks clinched the Lake Central Conference crown outright with a 94-67 thrashing of Castlewood on Tuesday night.

Trevor Olson lit up the Warrior defense with 36 points on 13-of-16 from the floor, including a 7-for-9 performance from beyond the arc, as Sioux Valley improved to 17-2 and 5-1 in the LCC.

Trevor Hanson posted a double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds while Ryan Schuster chipped in with 15 points.

Max Nielson dished out eight assists, to go along with a pair of steals, as the Cossacks finished 36-of-66 from the field for 55 percent.

Brandon Benike’s 27 points and nine boards led Castlewood, which dropped to 11-7 and 2-4 in conference play.

Caleb DeKam contributed 16 points and seven rebounds.

The Cossacks, 7-0 in the Big East Conference, have a chance to win that title on Friday when they close out the regular season at home against Garretson.

Castlewood also finishes up the regular season on Friday at Estelline.

 Flandreau 67, Baltic 29

Dylan LeBrun posted a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds and dished out seven assists to help the Fliers drop the Bulldogs in a Big East Conference matchup.

Connor LeBrun contributed 20 points, six steals and five assists.

Nate Cloud totaled nine points and Nathan Kneebone added three to go with 10 boards.

Baltic’s Zach Roggow scored 10 points.

Flandreau finished the regular season with a 14-6 (7-1) record, while Baltic ended up 4-16 (0-8). The Region 2A and 3A Tournaments begin Tuesday.
