Cossacks, Lady Elks, Fliers post victories


ARLINGTON – Rachel Miller netted her 2,000th career set assist and Nikole Ziegler had a solid night as Sioux Valley swept the homestanding Cardinals 25-23, 25-15, 25-20 in nonconference volleyball action Tuesday for their 16th consecutive win.

Miller, the Cossacks’ all-time leader in the category, finished with 35 assists against Arlington.

Ziegler hit .470 while totaling 21 kills to go with 23 digs.

Lynsey Stevens had nine kills, two service aces and 14 digs. Miakken Vincent tallied six kills.

Bethany Rennich notched a pair of blocks and Bryn Tvedt had 15 digs.

The Cardinals’ Jayna Haufschild had 12 kills and 10 digs.

Lindsey Rowbotham contributed nine kills and two aces. Angela Fuhr chipped in with six kills.

Marissa Baker dished out 26 set assists. Jeryn Christensen had 13 digs and Madysn Gilbertson added 11 to go with an ace.

Both teams return to action Thursday with Sioux Valley (20-3) heading to Baltic and Arlington (18-8) playing host to Castlewood.

 

• Elkton-Lake Benton 3, Waverly-South Shore 1

ELKTON – The Lady Elks won 25-7, 25-18, 19-25, 25-22.

Hannah Krog totaled 17 kills, three aces and 13 digs.

Baylee Jandahl added 10 kills and an ace. Samantha Schindler notched nine kills and two aces. Aubrey Wirth added five kills.

Callie Otkin racked up 42 set assists. Abygail Landsman paced the defense with 31 digs and Karlie Christensen added 17 to go with three aces.

For the Coyotes (16-10) Ali Kranz had 10 kills and 10 digs. Payton Comes added seven kills.

Elkton-Lake Benton (17-6) plays host to De Smet on Thursday.

 

• Flandreau 3, Clark/Willow Lake 1

FLANDREAU – Makenzey Burggraff had nine kills, five aces and three blocks to pace the Fliers in the Lake Central Conference matchup.

Marianna Pavlis added six kills. Rylee Iott came up with five blocks, while Mara Lunday totaled three aces.

Jaycie Pulscher guided the offense with 26 set assists. Brooke Iott came up with five digs and Anna Gassman four.

Janae Kolden had 12 kills and 18 digs for the Cyclones (9-12, 1-4). Abbie Bratland contributed nine kills and 19 digs.

Flandreau (11-13, 1-3) plays host to Parker on Tuesday.
