VOLGA – Sioux Valley dominated Flandreau Indian School 25-4, 25-6, 25-4 in the quarterfinals of the Region 2A Playoffs.

FIS came into the match 1-14, while the Cossacks were 13-19. Sioux Valley head coach Jill Vincent said she told her team before the match that it was opportunity to work on their game.

“We wanted to minimize our errors on our side of the net and make sure that we focus on every ball and make sure that we play at our speed of the game,” Vincent said.

The Cossacks had 33 kills as a team. Rylan Willis led Sioux Valley with 11 kills, three blocks and three digs.

Miakken Vincent had 10 kills and eight digs.

Haydyn Hauge had a team-high 27 assists and Julia Steffensen nine digs. Sioux Valley had 21 service aces, which was more points than FIS had. Rachel Cotton led the way with 10.

“I think for the most part we really focused and we stayed on-task. We had a couple of missed serves and a couple of hits out of bounds. Really we need to pick up the pace a little bit and be ready to go on Thursday,” Vincent said.

The Cossacks played 11 players, which is more than they usually play. Vincent said it was nice to play that many.

“It gives us a little bit of confidence,” Vincent said. “It’s always good to get different players in the game. They did a good job tonight. It gets a little bit of the nerves out definitely.”

Sioux Valley will play at home against the winner of Clark/Willow Lake and Florence/Henry on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Volga.

“If we want to come out on top Thursday we’ll have serve the ball really well. Pass the ball on serve receive extremely well because I’m sure whoever our opponent is will be a really good server. We’ll also need to minimize our hitting errors again and that is kind of our focus here at the end of the season,” Vincent said.
