VOLGA – Sioux Valley shot a blistering 65 percent from the field to run past St. Francis, 99-65, in boys’ nonconference basketball action on Wednesday at the Cossack Center.
And nobody was hotter than senior big man Trevor Hanson, who lit up the Warriors for 45 points on 20-of-26 shooting from the field – which included 3-of-6 from downtown – to go along with 2-of-4 from the foul line.
The Warriors didn’t have an answer for Hanson, who scored at will on the inside – both in the halfcourt game and in transition – before stepping out to knock down three 3-pointers. He also pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds as the Cossacks won the battle of the boards, 31-25.
Trevor Olson and Max Nielsen added 15 points apiece as Sioux Valley led 26-16 after a quarter; 55-27 at halftime; and 75-42 through three quarter as the Cossacks improved to 5-1 on the season.
Jaylen Bear Robe led St. Francis with 14 points and eight rebounds. Jadis Metcalf chipped in with 13 points and a pair of steals while Mahpiya Horse Looking finished with 12 points as the Warriors dropped to 2-4.
St. Francis tipped off against Deuel at noon in today’s Swiftel Classic.
On Saturday, Sioux Valley takes on 2-1 Dell Rapids at 5 p.m. in the Entringer Scholarship Classic at Brookings High School. The only blemish on the Quarriers’ resume is a 68-63 double-overtime loss to Tea Area.
